Is BYOK really free forever?+
Yes. BYOK runs entirely on your machine with your own API keys. We never see your data, never charge you, and never will. The free tier is permanent.
What does my API key cost?+
Kernora uses approximately $0.02–0.05 in API credits per session analysis. A typical month of engineering work costs $2–5 in API fees to your provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, etc.). You control exactly which provider powers your analysis.
Can I switch from BYOK to Team later?+
Yes. Your local knowledge base at ~/.kernora migrates to the shared S3 bucket. Nothing is lost. When Team launches, upgrading will be a one-command migration.
What about Ollama (fully local)?+
Fully supported. Run Ollama on your machine, point Kernora to it, and pay zero API costs. Analysis quality is slightly lower than Claude or GPT-4, but it's a great way to try Kernora risk-free while keeping your data entirely offline.
Do you store my sessions?+
No. BYOK stores everything locally in your ~/.kernora directory. Team mode stores knowledge in your own S3 bucket. We never access, log, or store your session transcripts on our servers.
What LLMs does Kernora support?+
Kernora works with Claude (Anthropic), GPT-4 (OpenAI), Gemini (Google), and Ollama (local). The installer detects your available API keys and recommends the best choice. You can switch anytime.
